I will start with complimenting your style, the more realistic look works really well, they look more 'real' and at the same time there is no mistaking who they are.
Ed's facial exspression is just pure genius and totally in character and I love the detail of the chicken on the magazine XD very clever.
Next Double D and Eddy. I only recently started looking for art pairing these two as I also ship Double D with Kevin and sometimes Marie, but this... it's highly addictive I admit to falling for it really fast. As I noticed now re-watching the show for the second time the subtile flirting and the scenes from the movie which is just plain adorable^^ As a big fan of gay-shippings and such finding out that my childhood favourite cartoon had this makes me love it even more.
I guess that's all from me, *looks up* my did I type a lot.... well, onces again lovely art work. (pardon any possible errors, English isn't my mother tongue)
Thank you for your lovely comment. Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I too was very surprised to find that EEnE - a show I'd watched since I was, what, 4? - was so heavily suggestive when it comes to gau shipping. it's great<3
Oh dear lord this is perfect. Haha, I've become deeply involved with the Ed Edd N Eddy universe again, after a long hiatus since... my childhood haha, The Army doesn't leave much time for nostalgia. I first got interested through Acid's Kevedd ship art, and honestly, I've become obsessed with it all! Your style here is just... so... damn, haha, it's mesmerizing! I love your ability to capture them all in a photorealistic style while still keeping their original personalities intact! sigh, I love this illustration. Looking forward to more.
Hey, no problem. EEnE, and particularly the pairing of Edd/Eddy is a great passion of mine and has been for years. Since I'm a writer I take all fictional characters, even those from comedy-type shows, very seriously and am always analyzing them and building on their stories/traits in my mind... I hunt down Edd/Eddy art fervently--my appetite for it is insatiable, ha ha, they are seriously the sweetest and cutest fictional couple in my opinion (probably because I perceive there being that aspect of purity as they are literally 'childhood sweethearts' and I think they must have had their first crushes on each other and that it just grew into this powerful passionate thing over the years...). XD
I tend to analyze a lot anyway, but this pic really caught my attention because it contained both the romance element that I normally look for and also threw in the unexpected bonus of seeing how the 3 of them may have bonded together over the years. It seems both classic and progressive to me, and it really made me keep on coming back and looking at it.
The expressions on Double Dee's and Eddy's faces in particular I kept on going back to examine... The way that you drew that, there seemed to be a lot of subtle communication. It wasn't the typical pose and same mirrored adoring expressions. You brought out each character's unique personality in all the subtle nuances of their body language, from the tilt of their head to the way they positioned their bodies. Each character in this illustration seems to embody who they are in the cartoon. I could practically hear dialogue going on. Ha ha! You must have been very inspired when you drew this, right? Did the vision come to you in a random moment all at once, or did it just sort of unfold as you were drawing?
Anyway, I know what you mean about how good it feels to get some good, detailed, honest feedback. I write fanfiction (including EEnE fics, although I haven't posted any yet. I think I have one finished that I can share. Maybe you'd care to beta it for me if I can find it?) and original stories, and there's actually nothing more aggravating to me than if someone just says "Oh that's good" or "It's ok, I guess," or has some other minor reaction. I want to know if my creation evoked a new emotion or idea, made them think or feel something profound... So whenever that happens for me I try to let the artist know about it. ^^
By reading your comments as well as viewing your artwork I think you seem like a very interesting person who probably shares a lot of my same views on these characters. I'd love to chat more one-on-one sometime, so feel free to PM me whenever if you feel like talking about the show or just whatever.
And I will certainly review future works such as these... They bring me bliss.
BTW: I am working on an EEnE community where fans can watch the show and interact. If it comes together as I hope then I will let you know. But don't be shy to remind me about that in the future, as I would love to update you with my progress. XD
Oh you're one of those people who write walls of text. Great! We need more of those!
Seriously I can't explain how much I love it when people actually seem interested in talking to me. I often find that people are too shy, or so I believe, to talk to me. I suppose they either don't check the comments on my pictures and thus discover that I actually reply, or they might think I seem all "oh why do I bother" when I reply but... really, I love talking to people and it happens too rarily .___.
Now, about the inspiration-thing... I don't think I was actually. I usually just have this picture in mind and then start working towards it as if it was some sorta goal. When it comes to bringing out feelings and the personalities of characters, I have this obsession with understanding a character and bringing out their inner selves when portraying them - especially because I am drawing them in a style that isn't theirs. Makes it more of a challenge. If you're a writer I know you know what I'm talking about. In some sense we're working in the same field, because we're both addicted to character portraying and delivering a story, so showing off their entire person through body language comes natural to me, as it does with you through the words you choose. You create pictures as well, but you do it in people's heads, which is what's hard about writing. You can, however, describe how a character feels, while I cannot. I have to draw a character's feelings, but what I do that you don't is show it visually. It's like... we have what each other lack or something. Oh aren't I the poet <3
Sorry for blabbering. But anyway, I already like you! I would love to talk more so how about we exchange skypes or something? Then we can talk about EEnE as much as you'd like and maybe we have more fandoms in common? And I can read your fanfic! : D
Sorry for my late reply. Real life took over for a few days. Ha ha! ^^
I know what you mean about how people seem reluctant to have real conversations a lot of the time. I think it's a shame, because if the people who have so much in common really took the time to sit down and have serious discussions with one another I believe that we'd all benefit from it ourselves, but that so would the fandom works overall.
And ah, I see what you mean about how you draw them... It makes perfect sense to me. I think your comparison to my writing about them is very accurate. You draw them literally, while I 'draw' them with words. I actually love how you phrased that, because it's so true. While I think I do have some talent at drawing I have not put the work into developing the skill and so I'm really lacking in that department (I want to try my hand at some EEnE fanart soon, though ^^ ), and I'm not sure if writing is also your thing--you express yourself very well though (so I think you may have more talent there then you give yourself credit for. XD )--but I think in that way, yes, it is like we 'complete each other' in an artistic sort of way when it comes to the Eds. lol! ^_^
And yes, I can relate too to that exciting challenge that comes from taking what we already know about a character and building on it, trying to remain true to the character and yet expanding on and sometimes revealing new sides that are possibly there. I feel that it is possible to know a character intimately even when they are not your own creation. It depends on a lot of factors, but I think some people just have a knack for seeing the whole person implied in the few glimpses that we are given of these fictional characters, and really bringing them to further life.
And I actually love that you have so much to say. I'm feeling a kindred spirit in you, lol ^^
I would love to exchange Skypes. I will PM you with my username. I can't wait to talk more about EEnE and share my (admittedly limited amount of) fanfiction from that fandom with you! And it would be really cool if we had other fandoms in common too; I'm sure we will end up introducing each other to some anyway, lol XD
I can't express how much I love this image. It has sort of become the standard for EEnE art, in my mind, lol ^^ Not only is your take on them as being older very skilled and accurate to their characters, but their body language as they hang out in a group expresses so much of the gorgeous dynamic between them all. Double Dee gazing at Eddy with such adoring eyes, Eddy obviously feeling proud to have the affection of such a sweet and cute guy that he has this tight bond with, and Ed just hanging out with them and not even feeling like a third wheel because he feels so much a part of the family. This manages to be both a romantic and a family pic, and calls to mind the feeling of being carefree, young and in love, and just having a nice afternoon to laze about with people you can totally be yourself with. I take away a lot from seeing this... Admittedly, most of all that unique flame between the lovebirds there that is even more hot just because the love is so pure. I can never get tired of seeing that. Thank you for sharing! You are so talented and you have really tapped into the essence of these guys here; I hope to see more works like this in the future. XD
...And this is kind of random, but I love how Double Dee's red socks look like tights here. lol! He seems to have managed to make his traditionally dorky and randomly thrown together outfit look sort of punkish, and it seems to fit him, not detracting from the impression of him as the smart and sweet boy at all.
Wow thank you so much for your comment! These are the kinds of comments I love. Not because it's praise but because it shows that you've really taken your time to look at the picture and interpret it the way you see fit (possibly finding some of the hidden stories - or how to put it - that I hoped people would find). Thank you so much! Really! It means the world to me! I hope to hear from you again the next time I submit something that interests you :3
I love this!!! I always thought Ed and DD were supposed to go together. In the very last ep when Ed's brother was bullying them he called DD Ed's girlfriend and they just looked at each other, like they were realizing they liked each other for the first time.
Well the storyboard artist who drew those parts of the series ships them :3 that's her. She's a close friend of the producer as far as I know and he allowed her to make them sorta gay so... that's enough to make it canon for me
